Re: Bayushi Paneki (exp4) and death...

L5R CCG Rules board, 8 October 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

In reference to this question about Bayushi Paneki (Experienced 4) where Mr Faulkes' answer refers to the rule saying a continuous trait on an out-of-play card, affect that card and only that card.

I am sorry to be so simple-minded but I don't understand if this ambiguous answer means: 1) either "dead Paneki's trait affects only Paneki so if Paneki is dead, your opponent loses honor only if he targeted him, not another personality in the same discard pile" ; 2) or "if dead Paneki's trait affected anything, it would only be Paneki but it never affects him, it only affects your opponent and his family honor so if Paneki is dead, this trait never makes your opponent loses honor even if he played the action that has just destroyed Paneki or if he played an action that targeted your dead Paneki (or another personality in the same discard pile)".

May you make my doubts vanish please ? If I target my opponent's alive Bayushi Paneki (Experienced 4) with an action which effects destroy him, after that action resolves do I lose 1 honor ?

Moreover, if the correct interpretation of Mr Faulkes' answer is 1), and if I target my opponent's dead Bayushi Paneki (Experienced 4) with an action, after that action resolves do I lose 1 honor ? Indeed I don't think a discard pile can be "Paneki's location" (card text), because a location is "an area where cards in play can exist" therefore it is just Paneki's area.

Of course I've searched before posting : viewtopic.php?f=59&t=59533 ; viewtopic.php?f=59&t=59553 ; viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60235 ; viewtopic.php?f=59&t=62334 ; viewtopic.php?f=59&t=62350 but none among these threads explicitely and doubtlessly says what happens when Paneki is already dead or when he is destroyed by the action.

Thanks for your lovely help.
