A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
A player, 2 October 2007
If i loose the battle created by my own heated discussion (or if my personality should be destroyed during the battle), can my oponent react to the end of heated discussion by doomed intention to destroy my personality ?
If yes, do this happen "during battle" (no effect because of heated discussion) or "after battle" (really killing my poor personality) ?
Cards texts : Heated Discussion Political Limited: Target another player's Personality. Create a battlefield and assign him to defend there. Assign any number of your Courtier or Magistrate Personalities to attack there. The Defender may then assign any of his Courtier or Magistrate Personalities there. Fight the battle. During the battle, before any Personality is destroyed, dishonor him instead.
Doomed intentions Reaction: After another player's action resolves that dishonored any of his own Personalities: Destroy one of those target Personalities. Battle: If there are enemy units at the current battlefield: Move one of your target units there. If it moved, straighten it. If you are the Defender, take an additional Battle action printed on a card in the unit.
Thanks

I want to talk this one over with the guys, but I have an idea of how I would rule it.
I'll get back to you as soon as we have a huddle.
