Equip action and Honor requirement

L5R CCG Rules board, 29 September 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Helloes;

Relevant texts:

Equip: Limited: Any number of times per turn, target one of your Personalities: Attach a target attachment card from your hand to him (paying all costs)

Honor Requirements are a type of restriction, as are the Loyal, Unique and Singular rules.

Restrictons: Restrictions on entering play are only checked when a card enters play.

Attach: When a player attaches an attachment card, he or she brings it into play, adding it to a personality's unit.

I got several questions regarding these Attaching rules: Actually, just rules lawyering grants me some result which fight with everything how attaching worked the last 10 years..... so please don't be mad if I kinda answer my own question - but I kinda seek an official "Yeah, even though it sounds unintuitive, its right this way" ... (or an "you got it wrong there" )

Let's assume I'm attaching a follower. As far I got it, I'll do the following:

- Announce the Equip actions - Choose mandatory targets (my peep getting the follower) - Pay all costs (in this case, the gold cost of the follower) - then I'll attach it to the personality - When attaching it, I check the Honor requirements.

So far it seems to be clear:

But what happens when I don't meet the HR of the follower ? It gets discarded ? Can I actually announce the Equip action in this case ? (Rule of good faith - does it prohibit this?)

A second question regarding Shinsei's last hope and attaching followers:

It reads: Region - Unique Reaction: Before you attach a Follower: Reduce its Honor Requirement to 1. Reaction: When paying for a Follower or for an action that creates one, bow this card: Reduce the Follower or action's Gold cost by 2 until the Follower attaches; this can not lower costs below 1.

Following the above procedure, can I use both reactions when attaching 1 follower ?

Right now, following the rules i would end up with this:

Step 1: Announce the Equip actions Step 2: Choose mandatory targets (my Personality getting the follower) Step 3: Pay all costs (in this case, the gold cost of the follower) Right now I have to bow Shinsei's last hope to produce 2 gold Step 4: then I'll attach it to the personality Step5: When attaching it, I check the Honor requirements. I can't use Shinsei's last Hope's other reaction to lower the HR now because it is bowed.

Is this correct or did I miss something.

Thanks alot for your time readings, Shakiko

(W)hat happens when I don't meet the HR of the follower?

http://rules.l5r.com/Card_types#Using_attachments: "To play an attachment card, a player follows this sequence:

"A. The attachment enters a specially created entering-play area.

"B. If the Personality being attached to has not already been designated, the player chooses a legal Personality for the attachment. The attachment's restrictions on entering play are then checked. If it can not enter play (including not having a suitable Personality), the attachment returns where it came from."

Shinsei's Last Hope: (C)an I use both reactions when attaching 1 follower?

Yes.
