Timing of Battle Resolution

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 September 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

According to CR:>

A. Compare the total Force of each army. Whichever army has the most Force wins (see Force total) B. Follow one of the procedures under this heading, in order, depending on the battle’s outcome.

If the Attacker Wins: * The Attacker simultaneously destroys all cards in the defending army. This is an effect of battle resolution.

* If his force exceeds the defending army’s Force plus the Province Strength of the province the current battlefield is associated with, he destroys the province. This is an effect of battle resolution.

* The Attacker gains Honor from resolution equal to twice the number of cards in the defending army that were destroyed by the effects of resolution. Before the Attacker gains 1 or more points of Honor from resolution, if the attacking army contains one or more dishonorable Personalities, these Personalities are all restored to honorable status, and the Honor gain from resolution is negated.

My question is:>

Is there time 'in between' the 3 bulleted points for reactions to trigger which can alter the outcome but the subsequent 'steps'.

For example, an unbowed Daigotsu Iemitsu with two followers is in battle resolution (as the attacker) with an unbowed Bayushi Hisako. There is also an unbowed Shosuro Adeiko on the table. The unit force for Iemitsu is higher then Hisako's plus the province strength.

A:> Iemitsu's army is larger, it wins. B1:> We simultaneously destroy all cards in the defending army as an effect of battle resolution.

Now, can Hisako's reaction be used to Dishoner Iemitsu? Can Adeiko's reaction now be used to place a -3/-2 token on Iemitsu? If Iemitsu is now destroyed for having zero chi, is the province now 'saved' from destruction?

Question #2:> How does Hisako's reaction interact with the honor gained for defeating an opposing army? If her reaction occurs as part of B1, when B3 occurs (gaining honor) does the dishonored personality 'attempt' to rehonor and have that attempt negated (due to Hisako's text) or is 2 honor per card gained since the dishonored personality can not be rehonored? I suppose utter defeat creates a similar situation.

Thanks!

Nothing changes the outcome unless it happens before army Force totals are tallied.

How does Hisako's reaction interact with the honor gained for defeating an opposing army?

Who?
