Eastern Hub Port, Equipping and Misdirection

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 September 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

In reference to my previous question, I'd like to ask another one about Equipping and Misdirection.

I am still playing Eastern Hub Port. At the current battlefield, I control two personalities : one Samurai and one Shugenja. My hand contains only one attachment card: a Brothers in Arms, which can only attach to a Samurai.

I announce that I am using the "Equip" ability. Before choosing targets for this action, my opponent plays Misdirection. He chooses this action is targeting my Shugenja. What happens ? I suppose the "Equip" action is negated but I'd like to know for sure.

What would happen if I had another attachment card in my hand that my Shugenja could legally attach but I didn't want to pay for, such as a very expensive Spell ? Would I be compelled to attach it if I can afford it ?

Thanks for your wise help.

The personality targeted by the equip action is targeted as a cost, which Misdirection is unable to alter, as it is only able to change the targeting of effects.
