Hida Amoro and A Moment of Truth

L5R CCG Rules board, 12 September 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hida Amoro

Crab Clan Berserker * No Armor Berserker is destroyed after any battle in which he is involved unless his army has a force more than twice as great as the opposing army.

A Moment of Truth (Anvil of Despair) Reaction: Play this card when one of your Personalities wins a duel or is in an army that destroys an opposing army. Go through your Dynasty deck (Provinces if necessary) and put the Experienced version of that Personality into play on the Personality as per the rules for an Experienced Personality. Reshuffle your Dynasty Deck.

I win a battle by only 1 Force, and search my deck for Hida Amoro (xp 1 or 2, neither of whom has the non-xp's trait). Does my Hida Amoro die because he had the trait when the battle ended, or can I overlay him before checking to see if he dies and save him?

I win a battle by only 1 Force, and (using A Moment of Truth) search my deck for Hida Amoro (xp 1 or 2, neither of whom has the non-xp's trait). Does my Hida Amoro die because he had the trait when the battle ended, or can I overlay him before checking to see if he dies and save him?

Force is checked at battle resolution (i.e., when you count to see who has more force), which is before destruction (the trigger for A Moment of Truth). He'll die.
