Introduction: (look below for the questions if you don't care )
Ok, i didn't wanted to waste Rules team time by asking something that was already covered somewhere, but in recent games there were a few doubts by my fellow players that i didn't know how to answer for sure. I am a loyalist Crane player who played for 8 years (since around Obsidian i believe).
I read the Crane Clan rulebook from Samurai Edition, the compreensive rules online, searched the forum, and read most of the posts on the first page of the rules thread. So after almost two hours i finally got the courage to post here.
I do find the new rules for Samurai Edition much more clear and easier for a newbie, and i had an easier time teaching the game to the new players. The problem is with veteran players (including myself) who got used playing one way for many years and now suddently forget or notice that their action is not legal anymore. I'm not complaining, i do think it's for the best, but it still takes some time to get used to it.
I -think- that after my research i might have understood the rules correctly, but wanted to make sure anyway so i can explain to my playing friends. Hope you don't mind.
Reason of Doubts:
Previously with the OLD rule of "relevance" it was legal to take an action if the TARGET was in the current battle OR if the Action was performed FROM the current battle. (EX: You could use a http://l5rsearch.com/db/search.cgi?cmd=detail&card_id=2833Matsu%20Hyun ability to straighten a tactician at home or somewhere else if Hyun was at the current battlefield or you could straighten a tactician in the current battle if Hyun was at home.)
QUESTIONS:
1) Relevant text:
Shrine to Bishamon: Battle/Open: Bow one of your target Personalities at any location and this card: Give a target Personality +3F.
The new rule of LOCATION says: 1. Any cards in units must be at the current battlefield to be legally targeted by a Battle action.
If using Shrine to Bishamon, i could resolve battlefield A, bow a personality somewhere else and give +3F to any personality at battlefield A. (Card text) But i cannot use it if resolving battlefield A to bow a personality there and give +3F to another personality at a different battlefield correct? (This was legal before, but not now after the Samurai rules)
2) Relevant text:
Two-Front War: Political Battle: Bow one of your target Courtiers, even in your home:
Rule of Location: The phrase “Even if (a card) is not at the current battlefield” is intended to waive the rule of Location, but not necessarily Presence.
The second question is a little bit more tricky, it involves Two-Front War, movement and relevance for the rule of location, and the only related threads i could find were this and this wich don't really help to clear my doubts.
Situation: My opponent attacks me at province A with a Samurai, and at province B with a Courtier. I defend at province A and he resolves that one first. I proceed to send his samurai home (using the Imperial Favor for instance.)
2.A) Can he use Two-Front War bowing the courtier at battlefield B to bring back to the battlefield A the samurai i just moved home?
2.B) Can he use Two-Front War bowing the courtier at battlefield B to bring back THAT courtier to battlefield A? (since both situations move someone in, i assume they fulfill the rule of presence, my questions is if they do or do not fulfill the rule of location and therefore if they are legal or not?.)
2.C) (This covers both situations above i guess) The frase from Two-Front War is different from the exception listed above so it doesn't waive the rule of location correct? So does the required Courtier need to be at the current battlefield OR at home? Or can he still play it from other battlefields?
I don't think it's legal to play it in the situations above, but i wanted to make sure.
I thanks you for your time and help in advance.
