Bayushi Hisoka and seppuku

L5R CCG Rules board, 6 September 2007 to 7 September 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 6 September 2007

Bayushi Hisoka Scorpion Clan • Courtier • Unique After Hisoka enters play: Target a card. While Hisoka remains in play, after each time that card bows, its controller loses 2 Honor.

Seppuku according to L5R main site

Under Seppuku (p. 51), alter the Seppuku action to:

Reaction: Any number of times per turn, before you lose Honor from an action that targeted or was performed by one of your Courtier or Samurai Personalities: He commits seppuku. If the seppuku destroyed him, reduce the Honor loss to one.

Assuming the targeted card is a samurai or courtier personality:

If targeted card bows due to resolution can he seppuku? What if I target him with an action that bows him? Since Hisoka targeted him with a trait, and that trait seems to be causing the honorloss, can the target card seppuku at all?

In addition: Can you bow bowed cards by targeting him with an action that would bow him? Would that trigger the honor loss, or does the card have to be straightened?

Bayushi Hisoka: If targeted card bows due to resolution can he seppuku?

No.

What if I target him with an action that bows him?

Since Hisoka targeted him with a trait, and that trait seems to be causing the honorloss, can the target card seppuku at all?

No, for reason given.

Can you bow bowed cards by targeting him with an action that would bow him? No. The effect is negated.

It must actually transition from unbowed to bowed.
