Re: Moto Chen

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 August 2007 to 14 August 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi !

In reference to this topic.

I was under the impression the player gained honor before the personnality entered play.

The rules from the Dynasty phase:

If he has not already gained Honor this way this turn, gain Honor equal to the Personality's Personal Honor just before he enters play (also known as "buying for Honor"). The Honor gain is for the Personality entering play, and if anything causes the Personality not to enter play, the Honor gain does not happen.

Emphasis mine.

So in the instance of Moto Chen xp2 entering play, that would mean that: - The unicorn player pays 10G (Moto Chen's full cost). - The player wins 2 honor from the aforementionned rule. - Moto Chen enters play and is dishonnored because of his trait.

So is your first answer a mistake or is it me overlooking something again ?

Thank you for your time.

I was under the impression the player gained honor before the personnality entered play.

The Experienced 2 Moto Chen's trait also occurs before entering play (card text). And it seems to me that "before" (Chen) is before "just before" (rulebook).
