Coward and Ambush

L5R CCG Rules board, 4 August 2007 to 5 August 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If I play Ambush, then during the ambush battle play Coward! on a personality that wasn't chosen as the target of the Ambush, what happens?

Can the other player choose to move his unit to the battle, and the movement is negated? Or can he not choose that option at all, as Ambush prevents moving other units to the battle? I'm thinking its the first one due to the blind card rule, but would just like to be clear.

Ambush Limited: Target one of your unbowed Personalities: Create a battlefield (not at any province). Assign your Personality to attack there. Assign another player's target Personality to defend there, even if bowed. No other units may move there. Fight a battle there. After it ends, lose 5 Honor. Coward! Battle: Target one of your unbowed Samurai at the current battlefield: Target one of the Defender's units in his home. Straighten it. The Defender may move it to the current battlefield. If he chooses not to, he loses 2 Honor, the unit's Personality is dishonored, and you may draw two cards.

The target is straightened. If the Defender tries to move the unit in, the movement is negated. But Coward! then looks for the decision, not whether movement actually happened.
