It seems like a few questions have been raised for this stronghold and am asking for further clarification, because now I am confused. I was under the assumption that you would have to have a legal target for the ranged attack before you could perform the stronghold ability. I appreciate you clearing this up for me, and everyone else.
Scenario: Daidoji Akagi is attacking province #1. My opponent defends province #1 with Mirumoto Chojiro, and province #2 with Togashi Ieshige. Province #3 is being left undefended.
Questions: If I start with province #2, can I use the ability on Mountain's Shadow Dojo to move Daidoji Akagi there? Can I use the ranged 3 attack to target Chojiro or Ieshige?
If I start with province #1, can I move to province #2 and shoot Ieshige?
If I start with province #3, can I move Daidoji Akagi there? Can I use the ranged 3 attack to target Chojiro?

I think a lot of your questions would be easier to answer if you stopped taking the effects out of order.
Mountains Shadow Dojo's effects go, "Ranged 3 Attack. Move him home or to another battlefield."
Shoot first. Move second.
If you have Doji Akagi - Crane Clan Samurai - assigned to Battlefield #1 and enemy units at both Battlefield #1 and Battlefield #2 you can do any of the following:
1.) Resolve Battlefield #2's battle first, making a Ranged 3 Attack on Togashi Ieshige at Battlefield #2 and then moving Doji Akagi to that Battlefield.
2.) Resolve Battlefield #1's battle first, making a Ranged 3 Attack on Mirumoto Chojiro at Battlefield #1 and then moving Doji Akagi to Battlefield #2 or to your Home.
You may not shoot a Personality who is not at the Current Battlefield - no matter where Akagi is coming to or going from. The Rule of Location forbids it.
