L5R CCG Rules board, 27 July 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I was stating that it could move to the current battlefield if one were not there as it does say "another battlefield" which I take to mean "one you are not at presently".

Consequently, I envision this scenario as being perfectly legal:

Crane Clan Samurai 1 is at home. Lion Clan Samurai 1 is attacking Province 1. Province 1 is the current battlefield.

Use Mountain Shadow Dojo to shoot Lion Clan Samurai 1 and move Crane Clan Samurai 1 to Province 1 from home.

Why would this not be legal? It follows the exception rule and doesn't break any rules.

No. That is not legal.

"Battle: Move target unit to another battlefield."

or

"Battle: Move this unit to another battlefield."

Mean that you move the unit to a battlefield other than the battlefield it is currently at and that you may not use the ability on any unit if the unit is not already at a Battlefield.

The only time "another battlefield" would mean anything else is if other text on the card references a particular battlefield. Such as:

"Battle: Target a Samurai at your home. Move his unit to the Current Battlefield. You may move another one of your units to another battlefield."

In this case "another battlefield," would be any battlefield other than the Current Battlefield.
