A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

In reference to this, Hida Utaemon asked : "If i wedge hida yaheiko, can she negate the destruction of wedge?" and he was answered "Yes - unless they've changed the wording on Wedge since I last checked. Destruction due to Wedge is a 'card effect' and would be a valid trigger for her ability."
Just to be sure: if I read the comprehensive rules correctly, assuming no other card is played and no other effect takes place, isn't Hida Yaheiko normally bowed when Wedge destroys her, which prevents her from using her reaction to negate her destruction ?

She'll be bowed if attacking, but not if defending.
