A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
A player, 9 July 2007
In reference to this Akodo Shimon asked, about Cartographers : "When the terrain is played and its effects are negated, does that mean that it is discarded or that it does nothing except for be a terrain?" and he was answered "The latter".
If I make no mistake by translating, this answer means that if a terrain is played by another player during the first battle that takes place at the province which has been targeted by my Cartographers' Recon Open action, the terrain enters play at the current battlefield but it does nothing else, by itself. It just prevents another terrain to be played there.
If I misunderstood this answer - I'm quite bad at English - please correct me.
Otherwise, Id' like to know why this terrain enters play at the current battlefield. Indeed, it is written at http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_T#Terrain that "After any costs and any required targeting of a Terrain Action card are met, the card enters play at the current battlefield as its first effect, before its other effects resolve." (emphasis mine). If the effect from Cartographers' Recon Open action negates the effects of this terrain action, shouldn't it also negate the entering-play effect of the terrain and make its player discard it ?

Ah, that's another little Samurai Edition rules change I've overlooked. Fixing.
