Gate Guardsman vs. Strike the Summit chain pt.2

L5R CCG Rules board, 6 July 2007 to 7 July 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

RE: This.

I think the answer in the link above is incorrect, although the answerer is not entirely at fault. The original poster did not explicitly state that his Gate Guardsman was reacting to an opponent's Strike the Summit, although I see this as the only logical interpretation given the Guardsman's Reaction's trigger.

I believe the question, put more plainly, was:

"If I control a Gate Guardsman at the current battlefield where another player has just resolved Strike the Summit, when do I get my extra action from Gate Guardsman? Before or after Strike the Center?"

I believe the answer is:

Both Strike the Center and Gate Guardsman's Reactions have the same trigger, therefore the active player has the first opportunity to react.

If you are the active player, you may react with Gate Guardsman and take the additional action it grants before your opponent's opportunity to react with Stike the Center.

But, if he is the active player, he may react to Strike the Summit with Strike the Center (and then react to THAT with Strike the Base) before your opportunity to react with the Gate Guardsman.

Regardless of whether I have re-interpreted the original question correctly, is this the correct answer to the question I posed in quotes above?

Correct.
