Greetings,
During Lotus format I had been told [edit : by a friend of mine] that, even if I had to be able to pay all costs before announcing an action, I could choose not to pay some of them, thus preventing the effects of action from happening, if my only means to pay these chosen costs were coming either from Reactions or from cards in my hands.
For instance, after a Naval Invasion had been declared, if I had announced the Battle action from the Black Heart of the Empire and the only way I had to pay its cost of discarding the Favor was either to play Duty from my hand or to use the Reaction from my West Hub Village, if my opponent played Reinforce the Gates to negate the effects from the Black Heart of the Empire, I could choose not to pay its costs and allow it to "fail"...
Did my friend made a mistake about that point, please ?
During Samurai format, will the "Good Faith Rule" prevent such a situation to happen ?
For example, my opponent is a Spider Clan player. He has just resolved the event: Dawn of the Spider. The Imperial Favor is uncontroled. He attacks me with several Human Shadowlands Spider Clan Personalities. I assign any one Personality I control opposing them and a deadly battle starts there.
Stupidly I announce that I am using the rulebook action which sends home an attacking enemy unit ; its costs is discarding the Favor. The only way I can pay this cost is either by discarding Commanding Favor from my home or by playing Duty from my hand. My opponent nicely remind me of the fact that Dawn of the Spider will negate the movement from my action because it is a Political one, therefore I'd like not to pay its costs.
In Samurai edition, will the rules compel me to pay it either way ?
Thanks for reading.
