I resolve a battle a province and play sneak attack and procede to play a battle action. My opponent plays reinforce the gate to cancel that action. Can I then react with Purge the weak to take another battle action even though my first one was canceled?

Yes. Comprehansive Rules, Abilities and actions: "An action resolves even if all its effects are negated or otherwise do not occur as effects." The trigger is valid.
