Shosuro Dazai and relevance

L5R CCG Rules board, 31 May 2007 to 1 June 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A question regarding relevance. Here is the scenario: I am resolving a battlefield where my opponent has a dishonored personality and I have a personality opposing him. Can I use Shosuro Dazai's open ability from another location at this time. In this case I do have a personality at the battlefield so I meet rule of presence and the action does target a personality at the battlefield so it seems to meet the rule of relevance according to the rulebook (the action must come from, target, affect, play or create a card or token at the current battlefield or attached to the province). The argument I'm facing from others is that political actions have no relevance in battle (im not sure where that comes from) or that it doesn't affect the battle directly (again not sure what that has to do with meeting relevance by the rulebook).

Shosuro Dazai

Political Open: Bow Dazai: Target a Dishonored Personality. His controller loses 3 Honor. This cannot reduce the player’s Family Honor below the target’s Honor Requirement unless it is “–”.
