Another costs question... 2

L5R CCG Rules board, 28 May 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

What about the other actions they have both costs of targeting and bowing or dishonoring.

The general principle is the same. If costs are paid, the effects happen. Again, quoting Lotus rules, pg. 44: "Destroying or otherwise removing a card from play after costs have been paid for an action on it does not negate that action’s effects."

Since targeting as a cost occurs before any other cost payment, Reactions to targeting (such as the Experienced Hida Benjiro) are unlikely to have an effect if targeting is the only cost.

Other costs payment beside targeting could be affected by a Reaction to targeting (such as the Experienced Hida Benjiro), since the Reaction will resolve before costs are paid.

If costs are paid, the effects happen. If costs are not paid, they don't.
