Shosuro Ohan follow up

L5R CCG Rules board, 7 May 2006

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Somehow, I get to increase Ohan's Chi by 1 (either by attachments etc). My opponent uses Impromptu Duel on one of my Personalities, and I refused. Can I gain his Honor instead by using Ohan's ability, since the honor gain is not a result of the duel?

No. Rules Archive, Duels, Resolution: "'Honor from a duel' refers to honor gains that are written as part of the action (or non-action card effect) that initiated the duel." The gain from refusal is part of the action, so is from a duel.

I agree that it is honor from a duel but it is not an honor gain as a "result a duel" since result would imply winning or losing and not having any duelist die before the strike occurs.
