a question about Shosuro Ohan

L5R CCG Rules board, 7 May 2006

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 7 May 2006

Somehow, I get to increase Ohan's Chi by 1 (either by attachments etc). My opponent uses Impromptu Duel on one of my Personalities, and I refused. Can I gain his Honor instead by using Ohan's ability, since the honor gain is not a esult of the duel?

relevant texts:

Shosuro Ohan

Political Reaction: Before another player gains Honor, bow Ohan: You gain the Honor instead. Use this only if the gain is less than Ohan’s Chi and is not a result of a battle or duel, and the player is above his Starting Family Honor.

Impromptu Duel:

Limited: Target a Samurai Personality you control: Target a Personality controlled by another player. Your Samurai challenges the other Personality. If he refuses, Dishonor him and gain 4 Honor. The winner gains 2 Honor.

No. Rules Archive, Duels, Resolution: "'Honor from a duel' refers to honor gains that are written as part of the action (or non-action card effect) that initiated the duel." The gain from refusal is part of the action, so is from a duel.
