Political Outcast and The Death of Ryoshun reversals

L5R CCG Rules board, 9 June 2005

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Political Outcast affects cards that are not in play. This is a reversal of the previous ruling and is effective immediately.

Current rulings on The Death of Ryoshun are also reversed, again effective immediately. Once a card in play is named for The Death of Ryoshun's Open action, The Death of Ryoshun can affect other copies of that cards that are not in play (in particular Gifts and Favors). Because it affects "game state" rather than cards, it is now illegal to use the Open action on The Death of Ryoshun during battle, because it no longer directly affects something in the current battle.

These rulings will be added to the Archive at the first opportunity. Your patience is deeply appreciated.

More to the point, they affect actions as they are announced rather than modifying any text on any card or anywhere in the rulebook. This is the reason Death of Ryoshun no longer satisfies the Rule of Relevance during battles.
