Daidoji Shihei & Three-Stone River

L5R CCG Rules board, 7 May 2005

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Just want to confirm that this works before I take it to Kotei (where I suspect it will be questioned).

Opponent attacks and assigns, say, Kisada. I defend with Shihei.

Reaction: After a personality at Shihei's battlefield receives a force penalty: Once per turn, target a Harrier you control. Raise the target's force by the penalty.

My action, I drop Three-Stone River:

Delayed Terrain

Battle: Lower the Force of each Personality in this battle with one or more Follower to the Force of his highest-Force Follower. Lower to 1 the Force of each Personality in this battle with no Followers.

No further actions are played; resolution begins. The Terrain resolves, giving Kisada -11F and Shihei -2F. I use Shihei's reaction to give him +11F.

Comparing force totals, I now have a 12F Shihei facing a 1F Kisada. Kisada dies, I gain 2 honor. Battle over.

Is there anything that prevents this scenario from happening as I've described?

Are the terrain's effects continuous, making it so that I can never have more than 1F in this case?

Does the fact that the force drop happens to personalities simultaneously mean that the active player (ie the Attacker) gets to choose the order that the penaties are applied? Can he choose to penalise Kisada first, then Shihei after the reaction happens, leaving them both at 1F?

If the Attacker can choose the order, is there anything to stop Shihei reacting to the last penalty applied? eg in this case, if Kisada receives the penalty, then Shihei, can Shihei still react to his own loss and go to 3F (effectively negating the loss), winning the battle?

Not that I can see.

Are the terrain's effects continuous?

No.

Does the fact that the force drop happens to personalities simultaneously mean that the active player (ie the Attacker) gets to choose the order that the penaties are applied?

Irrelevent, because this action always comes after the penalties.
