Misdirection

L5R CCG Rules board, 7 February 2005 to 9 February 2005

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

About To Do What We Must.

I have a Doji Nagori and Doji Kurohito (Exp.2) in a defending army in the same Province. I want to play TDWWM against an opposeed 4F unit.

1. Announce To Do What We Must

2. Targets: my Nagori and an opposeed 4F unit

3. Pay costs: Destroy Nagori

4. Resolve effects: Destroy 4F unit.

But if my opponent has a Misdirection, could it go in this way?

1. Announce To Do What We Must

2. Targets: my Nagori and an opposeed 4F unit

2.1 My opponents plays legally Misdirection. New targets for TDWWM: Kurohito and a stupid 0F unit in the current battle.

3. Pay costs: Destroy Kurohito

4. Resolve effects: Destroy stupid 0F unit.

My opponent doesn't redirect costs, only a target that could pay a cost. I think my example is correct, but I could be wrong. Is it correct, or not?

No. Changing who pays the cost from Nagori to Kurohito is redirecting the cost which the rules prohibit.

Maybe you are right. But I am still waiting an official answer.

ut I am still waiting an official answer.

You already got it.

Thanks. I didn't understand "You can not redirect costs", and now is clear for me.
