L5R CCG Rules board, 6 February 2005 to 21 February 2005
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Sorry if this question is old, but I've been looking for the official ruling but can't seem to find it.
I've ask around the place where I usually play and I've gotten different answers. So I'm posting this question just in case anyone knows the answer.
I'm using RED and I cancel the first action my opponent plays using during a phase with Outmanuevered by Force/ Balance and Nothingness.
Does my opponent discard again the next time he plays another action during that same phase?
According to the people at CrabClanCatasrophe, they have to discard again. But it doesn't seem to apply here. Some judges say that my opponents targeted already and they don't need to discard again. Can anyone point me to the official ruling regarding this?
Thanks!

I was looking for the ruling under Cancelling and Costs.
Grazie!

So does this mean he discards both times? That sounds awesome! The discard isn't a cost, right? So if the last card in his hand is the first one that targets me in a given phase, he can still do it without having to discard, correct?

True. The discarding is an effect. If your opponet doesn't have a card in his hand, he can still target you with actions.

Is that official?

Is that official?
Yes, just like the previous poster noted [card text].
RED doesn't say something like "To target one of your personalities, opponents must discard a card," it says "The first time each phase each other player targets one of your Personalities with an action, he must discard a card from his hand."
This isn't creating a cost, it is creating an effect of targeting your personalities.

yes. card text. unlike cards like Kachiko's Promises, the discard is an effect, not a cost.
