Rules changes since Jade

L5R CCG Rules board, 4 September 2015

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi Folks,

I played from Imperial to Jade and recently got back into L5r starting with 20F. Seems there have been a few major rule changes that I was hoping someone could confirm for me please.

Firstly, do followers contribute force to the unit at resolution of a battle even when the personality they're attached to is bowed?

Second, do weapons continue to modify the personality 's stats even when bowed?

Thirdly, if a card such as champion's tactics says to move an unbowed personality would this include attachments?

Finally, the second ability of Throes of Madness: " Open, bow: Straighten this holding if you have not given any madness tokens this turn. Give a target personality a madness token." I don't get how this operates. So you can't use actions on bowed card unless it says tireless - this doesn't - so if bowed how would you straighten it with its action? Could I bow it for gold in my turn then in another player's action phase straighten it, then bow it and put a madness token on someone?

If anyone can please help I would be very grateful.

Firstly, do followers contribute force to the unit at resolution of a battle even when the personality they're attached to is bowed? Yes. See Follower.

Second, do weapons continue to modify the personality 's stats even when bowed? Yes. See Item: "Unlike the separate Force of Followers, Items have a Force modifier in the upper left hand icon that directly raises or lowers their Personality’s Force."

Thirdly, if a card such as champion's tactics says to move an unbowed personality would this include attachments? If you mean, "Do the attachments move with the Personality?" then yes. If you mean, "Do the unbowed Personality's attachments need to also be unbowed?" then no. See Unit.

Finally, the second ability of Throes of Madness... The straighten effect of the action occurs - like all actions' effects - during the action's "Resolve Effects" step, which is after the "Pay Costs" step, in which you must bow the Throes of Madness. See Action Sequence, and Costs.
