Mirumoto Hitomi CW and "opposing"

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 August 2015 to 19 August 2015

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 13 August 2015

Samurai • Duelist • Experienced 2CW • Loyal • Unique Text Cannot gain Corruption tokens or Shadowlands. After Hitomi enters play, you may create and Equip to her (paying all costs) a +2F/4GC Hand • Obsidian Item with the traits, "Cannot be transferred or destroyed. Hitomi has Shugenja. Has +2C while opposing a Jade card or a Personality with higher Personal Honor." Unstoppable Engage: Target one to three cards in the hand of a player with a unit at this battlefield. He or she shuffles them into their deck and draws that many cards.

In terms of the +2 chi granted by the obsidian hand while opposing a personality with higher personal honor, if you are in a limited or open duel against someone with higher personal honor, will the +2 chi clause kick in?

Per the rule book, “Opposing” refers to cards at the same battlefield, on different sides. So would your opponents cards being on their side, be opposing outside of battle?

No. As you read, cards are only "opposing" if they are on opposite sides of a battle at a battlefield.
