I picked up the Twenty Festivals Starter Display with the 9 decks and read everything I could. Spent yesterday trying several decks against my little brother, and we did our best to get through some games. In one of the games I tried Phoenix. I think I played wrong.
If I had a spell in my hand, I assumed, I could cast it from a Shegunja that has a matching element in his name at any time, if I paid the cost. Later, I deduced, that you might have to equip them and place the card under the Shegunja like you would a follower. Is that correct?
Do they have to have a matching element? Like a spell that says Air, can only be equipped by a Shegunja that says Air on his card?
There were also some spells in the Deck that said "Thunder Battle." I assumed Thunder was another element. However, I had no Shegunja or any personalities in the deck for that matter, that said "Thunder" on them. How do I use the Thunder cards then?

Unless a card has an effect that states otherwise, any Shugenja may attach any type of Spell, normally by use of an Equip action.
Once in play, the Spell's abilties may be used.
