Re: Kitsu Junsuke\Susumu Jaro and entering play dishonored

L5R CCG Rules board, 20 January 2015 to 28 January 2015

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Has there been any resolution as far as how Kitsu Junsuke and Susumu Jaru interact with them entering play dishonored (via The Company You Keep)? Per the current CR, it seems fairly clear that Proclaiming a Junsuke with 5 ancestors out would gain you 5 honor, and give you a dishonored Junsuke in this situation.

Reasoning - The honor gain from Proclaiming is from the rulebook ("Proclaiming gives the Proclaim keyword to the recruiting action. Honor gains from Proclaiming are from the rulebook Recruit action, or from the rulebook Recruit procedure if the action calling it was on a card."), which does not fit the listed criteria for a gain that would substitute into rehonoring a personality. Now the CR does say that (to paraphrase), "if you would gain honor from an action or trait coming from or targeting a dishonorable personality, substitute the gain for rehonoring." However, it is pretty clear that Junsuke is NOT creating an honor gain with their trait, merely modifying the rulebook proclaim action (similar to how using a Court Scribe followed by Favors results in the Favors gaining you 3 honor, with none of the gain considered to have come from the Scribe). So you recruit and announce proclaim on Junsuke, The Company You keep triggers before he enters play, dishonoring him and setting his maximum PH to 0, he enters play, and then Proclaim triggers, which has the following calculation if I understand the rules correctly:

You gain honor equal to Junsuke's current PH (0), increased and set to the specific value of the number of ancestors you have in play, and then set to the maximum of 5 if it is over 5.

Thank you

When Recruiting these Personalities, they will remain dishonored and you will gain the stated honour.

In each case, the amount to be gained is the greater of the Personality's Personal Honour (which is 0 because he or she is dishonored) and the amount stated on the card.

The honour gain from Proclaiming comes from an action that does not target or come from the Personality, so it will not cause the Personality's rehonoring to be substituted for the honour gain.

Note: this answer will change with Twenty Festivals.
