The problem is the following statement, which was mentioned in this thread.
If the card discards itself from the hand as part of its ability, this discard is done from the resolution area.
I would argue that this statement does nothing. I never applies under any circumstances. Because when a card states it is discarded from hand, it cannot be discarded from the resolution area instead. These two statements are mutally exclusive. This is a contradiction, so Cardinal Rule #1 does in fact apply. That means if a card states it is discarded from hand, it is discarded from hand and this sentence changes nothing about it. And in fact this is awesome, because an effect like "Target player discards a card from his hand" has the same meaning and logic behind it as "Discard this card from your hand to do something".
However if the Comprehensive rules would work as a specification instead as an overwrite, there would indeed be no doubt about the whole story:
If the card discards itself as part of its ability, this discard is done from the resolution area.
By just deleteting the "from the hand" part from the Ring Cards ("Discard this card to do something") and from the Comprehensive Rules. Your interpretation of the rules would be logically correct and also intuitive for new players (or at least for me). Strangely by being less specific, things can become more clear.
I hope I don't sounded to harsh. I am not a Native speaker after all, and I just have very much respect for your work.
