A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Every thread since this has categorically stated that reminder text has NO influence on rules.
I can't find any update in the CR that confirm Ben's ruling (but I may be missing it).
Assuming I haven't missed anything in the comp rules that confirms Ben's ruling, what do I pay when I buy a 5G personality with Cav Escort's battle action?

No, you do not. Cavalry Escort (may it rest in peace) uses the term "attach" to specify that it does not go through the standard Equip procedure. If you use Cavalry Escort to bring a 5G Personality into play, you will pay 10G (or bow a School of Wizardry or a Colonial Dojo, if you want to be cheesy about it).
