Reslient Again

L5R CCG Rules board, 29 July 2014 to 4 August 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Regarding the above. What about if the Shugenja travels through the Void via Interrupt the Void's flow? Since the unit is removed from the game, and not simply from play, one would presume the tracking of Resilient is lost?

As an aside, I don't see the section of the comprehensive rules on game state tracking regarding cards "face down out of play" losing their states (ala Emperor Edition). If Ninube Shiho is used one someone who has already had Resilient triggered how do you track it, or will that also be forgotten?

Interrupt the Void's Flow does not put a card facedown and out of play, so it would track its game state of having "burned" Resilient.

Going facedown and out of play via Shiho, however, would reset the Resilient flag.

Regarding the above. Here's the scenario:

I create an Illusion with the spell Constructing the Self. Which says: "Air Limited, bow: This Spell may remain bowed. Create a 0F Illusion • Nonhuman • Cavalry • Shugenja Personality with this Shugenja's Chi and Personal Honor. After the next time this game this Spell straightens or leaves play, remove the Illusion from the game.

If Ninube Shiho targets my spell and places it on the bottom of the deck, it's leaving play and my Illusion will also be removed from the game.

But if my Resilient Shugenja also has Interrupt the Voids Flow and uses its ability, my Illusion is NOT removed from the game because Interrupting the Void's Flow ignores leaving-play effects.

If Interrupt the Void's Flow does not remove a card from the game in the same manner as Shiho why does the card specifically say to ignore leaving-play effects? It seems to me that Shiho and Interrupt the Void's Flow are equally removing a card from the game with the exception that ItVF breaks the rules in SOME stated regards but not all.

Which makes me think of another question. ItVF states that it's breaking the leaving and entering the game rules in three respects; attachments, tokens, and effects/costs. so what about force bonuses that are not tokens? or keywords given to the personality that would normally drop at the end of the turn such as Cavalry from Fudoist Temple.

As an aside, I don't see the section of the comprehensive rules on game state tracking regarding cards "face down out of play" losing their states (ala Emperor Edition).

It's under "Card Memory Rule", p 29: If a card is both out of play and face-down (including returning to the hand), it “forgets” ongoing effects specific to it, and other changes such as whether its abilities have been used.

Being out of the game is the same as being out of play for any other reason for the purpose of the Card Memory Rule - unless the card is face down, and cards which are removed from the game always do so face up.

If Interrupt the Void's Flow does not remove a card from the game in the same manner as Shiho why does the card specifically say to ignore leaving-play effects?

Shiho puts each card on the bottom of the deck, where it is face-down and out-of play, so its state is forgotten.

Interrupt the Void's Flow removes each card from the game face-up, so its state is retained - the fact that leaving-play effects are ignored is irrelevant since the Card Memory Rule is not a leaving-play effect.

ItVF states that it's breaking the leaving and entering the game rules in three respects; attachments, tokens, and effects/costs.

No, just attachments, tokens and costs: attachments are normally discarded, tokens normally destroyed and costs must normally be paid. Leaving-play effects are card effects, not game rules.

so what about force bonuses that are not tokens? or keywords given to the personality that would normally drop at the end of the turn such as Cavalry from Fudoist Temple.

Ongoing effects on a card out of play end at the normal time - the end of an effect is not an effect in itself.
