Until now I was of the opinion that having multiple maxima or minima is no problem, after all the most restrictive sets the bar.
If that is not the case, how do I determine which one is relevant?
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

With multiple effects than change the same "game state" so to speak, you always apply the one that resolved last, last.
If I had a guy with an effect on him that gave his Force a maximum of 4, and then you played a card that had the effect of a maximum of 3 Force, your effect would over-write my effect.
This works the same way Sneak Attack and a defensive Shosuro Toson - Experienced 2 interacted back in Emperor Edition. (The Attacker could Sneak, then the Defender could react with Toson to "take back" the first action fo the battle.)
