L5R CCG Rules board, 3 June 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I just wanted to check on this. I will just copy what I posted on the preview thread:

I might be wrong, but there is something off with the wording of this card. It says as reminder text "ignoring all costs". But there is a problem with this.

"Reminder text is there to help players remember the wording implication of the rules. It carries no rules implications itself" - CR, p 16 "Flavor, color, credit and reminder text"

This is supposed to remind the player that you don't need to pay for the attachment entering play. But, the thing is, you DO need to pay it according to the rules.

"Followers, Items and Spells are all attachment cards. They attach to Personalities in play using the Equip procedure " - CR, p 10, "Attachments" "Sometimes “Equip” is used as an effect in card text. This means that the effects of the Equip action are activated, and the card’s Gold Cost is checked against the amount paid for the original action. If the original action did not give the opportunity to pay Gold, then before the card is attached, its Gold Cost must be paid or the attachment fails. ", CR, p 34, "Equip"

So, the reminder text is pointing to a rule that doesn't exist, and it souldn't be reminder text, it should be an effect like the rest of it.

Right / Wrong?

Thanks!

Cavalry Escort says you attach the card to the Recruited Personality. Attaching is not the same as Equiping, even though attaching is an effect of a Equip action.

When you Equip a Follower/Spell/Item, it's costs must be paid.

When you simply attach a Follower/Spell/Item, costs do not have to be paid.

Hope that helps clear things up!

Ok, I'll take your word for it, but I wanted to point out that, at this moment, there is nothing in the CR mentioning that difference. In fact, this part of the CR suggests otherwise: "Followers, Items and Spells are all attachment cards. They attach to Personalities in play using the Equip procedure" - CR, p 10, "Attachments"

If attachments not always use the equip procedure, the last sentence is misleading. If you add to that that "attach" has no special definition in the CR, I hope you see where my confusion comes from.

Thanks!
