A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

So having perused the rule book looking for an answer and turning up vague solutions I thought'd I just ask this here.
If someone uses the Cav engage action to move in their unit then that unit can not be the target of back to the front because Cav engage action is not an assignment to the battlefield, correct?
I just started playing again in Ivory and the last time was in Gold/Diamond and back then I thought Cavalry still assigned just during a different segment of battle.

Correct. They cannot use Back to the Front to move to the battle they used Cavalry to move into. If they were sent home from that battle, however, they could use Back to the Front to move back into the battle to which they originally assigned.
