A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A follow up to this post.
(I have played Sneak Attack and this is my first action)
A. Announce the action: I play Inspired Leadership.
B. Pays any costs of the action: I pay the invest cost but haven't yet targeted a personality. Does the good faith rule allow me to invest 0G based on future targeting?
C. Gives all players a chance to play Interrupts to the action: My opponent plays Entrenched Position.
If the effects of the actions are negated, which include the targeting of the two personalities, what happens to the invest effects if I was planning to target a tactician? I have paid 0G, but I never actually target a tactician as there is no longer any targeting. Do I still get the additional action? If so, why?

Incorrect, targeting isn't an effect. Even if the action gets negated, the mandatory targeting must occur.
You choose how much you want to pay, but if you pay 0, you must be able to target a Tactician, and later choose him as the target.
Entrenched Position doesn't mean that the action suddenly vanishes into air. It means that all effects will not happen, but the action resolves entirely, even if it doesn't change the game state.
