Can I use this card on attachments I cannot use? Say a different clan Armor?
What happens if:
1. I try to buy another clan armor? Just discard or illegal target? 2. Same question, but say I wish to buy an opponent's spell, though I control no shugenja? 3. Again, if we both have Koan's staff in play, what happens?

Nothing happens. The target is legal, the entire action is legal, it just fails to transfer it because some rule or trait makes the transferring effect fail.
