How long Coils of Madness, Gates of Chaos and Aftermath would be legal in Ivory Constructed?
CoM, GoC, AM legality
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
How long Coils of Madness, Gates of Chaos and Aftermath would be legal in Ivory Constructed?
Well, that depends on what format the Tournament Organizer chooses to run.
The three types of Ivory Constructed are Strict, Standard, and Extended. The three formats allow 1, 2, and 3 different colors of "bug"s (the colored circle with kanji in it in the lower left and right of the card) respectively, from the most recent backward. Starting this year, every year of the game will see a new bug on cards printed in that year; this year's bug is Dark Blue. Most tournaments run "Standard" format, which currently allows Dark Blue and Purple. If any TO chose to run Strict this year, CoM, GoC, and AM would already not be legal for that, as only the Dark Blue bug (which they do not possess) would be legal.
Next year, in 2015, there will be a new color. Let's pretend it's Orange for this example. So, in 2015, the three formats will look like this:
Strict: Only "Orange" bugged cards allowed. Standard: Only "Orange" and Dark Blue bugged cards allowed. Extended: "Orange", Dark Blue, and Purple bugged cards allowed.
So, CoM, GoC, and AM, possessing Purple and Green bugs, are legal for Standard and Extended this year, but will only be legal for Extended in 2015, and will not be legal at all in 2016.
I hope that helps!
