Holdings with gold production and gold reduction traits

L5R CCG Rules board, 11 April 2014 to 18 April 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I have searched the rules questions and not seen an answer to this question (the closest was this question). In Coils of Madness, there was a "New Rules" sheet with "Major Changes", number 9 said "Effects with a bow cost but no designator, including payment reductions, are triggered optionally when you produce Gold." However, at a recent Kotei I was corrected by many with regards to this rule (specifically with Deep Harbor). I have searched the Rulebooks, the Comprehensive Rules and this forum and found no mention of this rule, but also nothing to indicate that this rule has been revoked. So, does this rule still exist?, and if so, allow me to present a few occurrences to verify how it works. - Bow Deep Harbor when recruiting a 2-cost holding: I bow the Harbor for 1 Gold and trigger the other trait to reduce the cost of the holding to 0 - theory: holding recruited and 1 Gold in pool. - Bow Akodo Dojo when equipping a 5-cost follower: I bow the Dojo for 2 Gold and trigger the other trait to reduce the cost of the follower to 2 - theory: spend the 2 Gold to equip the follower. - Bow Colonial Temple when equipping a 5-cost attachment: I bow the Temple for 2 Gold and trigger the other trait to reduce the cost of the attachment to 1 - theory: spend 1 Gold to equip the attachment, 1 Gold in pool. - Bow Kaeru Contractor when playing a 2-cost strategy: I bow the Contractor for 2 Gold and trigger the other trait to reduce the cost of the strategy to 0 - theory: strategy paid (additional reduction lost), 2 Gold in the pool. As far as I can see, ALL of these cases do not violate good faith because the Gold is produced first (per the rule) and the reduction does not occur until afterwards thus satisfying the rule that you cannot produce Gold unless there is a reason to do so (there was when the holding was bowed, it was simply eliminated after the Gold was produced). Thank you for your time.

The issue is not with Good Faith at all.

The issue is that both the production trait and the reduction trait have the cost of bowing the Holding, indicated by the little bowing samurai guy. So, if you bow it as a cost for one, you can't bow it for the other, because it's already bowed.
