Shosuro Hotaka

L5R CCG Rules board, 30 March 2014 to 31 March 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Taking into account Roger's clarifications here: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=107220&p=1412329

* The Invest trait (p. 22) has been the subject of some unresolved rulings. The Rules are going by the intuitive principle that something that pays for a card can also pay for its Invest cost. Because it is desirable to have Holdings like Colonial Dojo and Colonial Temple work the same way as Holdings that produce Gold, Invest costs will now be paid as part of the payment for a card entering play, rather than after it enters play - a change from the literal wording of the printed rules and reminder text. Invest effects on cards entering play will still come from the Invest trait, not any action.

For me, it means that Shosuro Hotaka now has a clearly defined timing: 1) pay Invest gold cost 2) resolve Invest effect 3) Hotaka enters play 4) draw a card with Destined

Am I right?

Not exactly. Although you pay for Invest at the time the card enters play, the effects still trigger after entering play, that part hasnwhich means they have still the same timing as Destined. So it would really be:

a) Pay Invest cost b) Hotaka enters play c) Active player decides whether to apply Destined or Invest first d) The other effect activates then

So you must decide to use Invest before drawing the card, but you may discard the card after you drew the card from Destined (assuming you're the active player).
