Ranged attacks + Final Sacrifice

L5R CCG Rules board, 30 March 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

So my buddy has two personalities out. One is a yojimbo with a samurai follower and the other is a courtier with no attachments. My other buddy plays a deliberations to ranged attack the naked courtier. Can the first guy use final sacrifice to redirect the ranged attack to his yojimbo and if so what happens? Does it kill the follower? He was thinking he had a layer of protection on the yojimbo but we ruled at the time that the yojimbo wasn't a legal target because of having a follower. What *really* happens?

Thanks in advance!

Final Sacrifice says "if legal". Since the Yojimbo with a follower is not a legal target for a Ranged Attack, the opponent is not forced to choose him nor any card in his unit as a target and may choose to hit the shugenja.
