Ring of Air - Asahina Kitiaru Entering Play timing

L5R CCG Rules board, 21 March 2014 to 26 March 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hello, I tried looking for other Ring Entering Play timing rules but really could find a topic that addresses this particular scheme.

As an example this it the situation. At some point a ring of air that was in my hand becomes discarded. I have Asahina Kitaru XP in play. At some point I go through 2 favor actions in 1 turn. I then use Kitiaru to retrieve the ring of air from my discard pile. Can I then immediately play it as it's trait checks through-out the game to make sure the requirements were met? Since the Ring's trait give no restriction on when the 2 favor actions where to have been done, it would seem to me that as soon as the ring enters my hand it becomes playable and then I could play it.

Would this also apply to if I drew the Ring from my deck could I then immediately play it if I had met the conditions during that game?

I'm at a little loss for what would be the ruling since the trait seems to check the conditions over the whole game rather than the current turn. Thanks for your help.

Peter

Ring of Air - Play after you resolve two or more Favor actions in one turn. You may discard this Ring from your hand to use its ability without cost. Air Repeatable Battle/Open, w: Straighten your target Personality or attachment.

"After" always means "immediately after", it has to be interpreted always restrictively. In order to activate the entering-play trait, you need to use it exactly after resolving one of the Favor actions (second or later). If you retrieve the Ring of Air after having fulfilled the condition, you can still fulfil it again that turn with a third Favor action, but the timing window for the second Favor action is over.
