The Earth's Armor + Discretionary Valor + Duel

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 March 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If my Defending Shugenja with The Earth's Armor attached, issues a duel and wins (let's say it's COaaT) but my opponent focuses a Discretionary Valor, would the Shugenja Bow? I'm assuming he wouldn't but I just wanted to double check

Cheers!

The Earth's Armor: While this Shugenja is defending, other players' cards will not bow him. Discretionary Valor: As a Focus Effect, bow the other Personality

Discretionary Valor is "other player's card", so its effects will not bow your Personality. The Earth's Armor doesn't specify that the effects must come from an action, so traits like Focus Effects are also negated.
