Seking the Way Redux

L5R CCG Rules board, 21 January 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I would like some clarification to mandatory targeting under Ivory.

The above seems to imply, that the bowing Shugenja is *not* targeted by the first clause, but only by the second. That is to say, the only mandatory target is an attacking. personality under Ivory. In this case if your Shugenja is bowed, as long as there is an attacking personality to target: you could announce the action, the first clause would fail and you would gain 2 honor.

However, in this follow up to another question:

The rules team seems to be saying that the Shugenja *is* targeted. But, there's no mention of the Shugenja being targeted on Seeking the Way.

Please clarify. and thank you.

You're mixing concepts of both questions.

There's only one target in Seeking the Way: an attacking Personality. However, it can happen to be the shugenja, provided he's attacking. In which case, the spells targets its shugenja and moves him home alone. The shugenja can be targeted by Seeking the Way, but that's only one possibility, it isn't always so.
