Strength of the Divine Vs. Kitsuki Kaagi's Journal (LEGACY)

L5R CCG Rules board, 16 July 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi,

Can Strength of the Divine melee attack a personality with an attached Kitsuki Kaagi's journal?(since Strength of the Divine does not say target)

Strength of the Divine

Battle: Target your opposed unbowed Paragon. Give him +2F or +2PH. Melee Attack with strength equal to his Force or Personal Honor.

Kitsuki Kaagi's Journal

Cards in this unit may not be targeted with, or chosen as the performer of, actions except by actions that only target or performed by Ninja, or that will attach a card that only a Ninja may attach, even if the target or chosen performer is not a Ninja. You do not gain Honor from duels involving this Personality, battles his army wins, assigning him as an ally, or actions he performs. Reaction: Any number of times per turn, after a Ninja or Kolat action targets a card not in this unit, bow this card: Negate its effects.

Thanks!

Melee Attacks (which are identical to Ranged Attacks) are targeted and explicitly use the word target. “Melee X Attack” (where X is a number known as the strength of the Melee Attack) is shorthand for “You may target a Follower or a Personality without Followers in the current enemy army. If its Force is equal to or less than X, destroy it.”

Melee Attacks cannot bypass the protection offered by Kitsuki Kaagi's Journal
