Create a copy of card vs copying abilities

L5R CCG Rules board, 22 May 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hello!

After reading this : viewtopic.php?f=59&t=103221 (Shadow Dragon vs Egg of P'an Ku) - I still have my doubts.

1) "Copy" (noun) is a reference to particular piece of game. Not a reference to a result of "copy" (verb) effect. All Ikoma Whathisname in deck are refered to as "copy of Ikoma Whatisname", but neither of them are a copied instance of another I.W, and neither of them ever copied another one. (#Copy_.28verb.29) 2) "Create a copy of card" effect does not copy (verb) a card. It creates another instance of "the card" to exist in game, with all of its text and stats "imprinted" already, and considered "base". (#Creating_cards - 3rd paragraph, #Base)

Then, again, what happens if "Create a copy of a card" (for example Egg of P'an Ku EXP) meets "ability will not be copied" (for example Shadow Dragon EXP - but I am inclined more into Asako Usohara)?

"Create a copy of a card" is equivalent to and short for "Create a card, which copies all stats, traits, keywords and abilities of the chosen / target card". Treat it as a verb, even though grammatically is a noun here. Here "copy" appears as a noun in order to reduce the ability's text, but it's designed to work as "copy (verb)".

You'll also note that "copy (noun)" makes no sense here and you're using it here just to prove your point, but you certainly understand that here "copy" clearly and unambiguously refers to the (verb) epigraph. I see no way you can be confused here.

Neither Shadow Dragon XP2's abilities nor Usohara's abilities will be copied.
