Disgrace and cards not in play

L5R CCG Rules board, 25 March 2013 to 26 March 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Does Disgrace prevent the targeting of Personalities in the discard pile by Shosuro Hawado or those in Provinces by Shosuro Hawado XP2?

Does Disgrace prevent the targeting of Personalities in the discard pile by Shosuro Hawado or those in Provinces by Shosuro Hawado XP2?

Disgrace adds a restriction to your opponents' actions, it does not create an effect on your Personalities. Thus, your Personalities out of play may not be targeted as well as those in play.

Btw, note that Disgrace only affects Limited actions, not Open or Battle actions: Shosuro Hawado non-experienced's ability is Battle, for example; the ability on Duel to First Blood may used to take a Battle action, but not to take a Limited action.

Shosuro Hawado Exp 2 Limited: Target a card in a province: Discard it. Refill the province face-up.

Disgrace Until your Events Phase two turns from now begins, other players may not target your Personalities with Limited actions.

Question 1: If a player has a personality face-up can I discard it with Shosuro Hawado if Disgrace is in affect? (based on the reference ruling it looks like this is a NO). Question 2: If I target a face-down card and it is revealed to be a personality, what happens (and why)? Question 3: If a player has a personality face-down (known to me because of Otoro Estate) can I in good faith discard it with Shosuro Hawado if Disgrace is in affect?

If I target a face-down card and it is revealed to be a personality, what happens (and why)? Until it is turned face up, it is assumed by game state to be nothing more than a face-down Dynasty card, and may be freely targeted by Shosuro Hawado Exp 2's action. After it has been targeted, there's no way to stop the effect of the action without some effect that explicitly negates or otherwise prevents it.

If a player has a personality face-down (known to me because of Otoro Estate) can I in good faith discard it with Shosuro Hawado if Disgrace is in affect? You might know what the card is, but game state does not. You are free to target it.
