Show of Restraint and other negations

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 March 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

1) My bowed Monk (with a weapon) performs Show of Restraint. If my opponent uses a bowing effect on him, will it trigger the negation? I think not because his effect will fail to even try to bow my Monk (effectively protecting my Monk against the next "send home" effect).

2) Too Close to Home is in effect, and my unbowed Monk (with a weapon) performs Show of Restraint. If my opponent uses a "send home" effect on him, will it trigger the negation? I think that, this time, it is a case of "active player chooses".

Am I right?

Show of Restraint Battle: Choose your performing Monk: Negate all current Force penalties on him from actions. If he has a Weapon, negate the next card effect that moves him home or bows him.

Too Close to Home Until your next turn begins, negate all movement to and from battlefields.

1) Correct, failure takes precedence over negation

2) Correct, both negation effects have the same priority, one is ongoing and the other is triggered, but both fall under the A priority so active player gets to choose.
