Blood Wave & Koshin Keep

L5R CCG Rules board, 20 February 2013 to 6 March 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If I use Blood Wave to destroy one of my personalities or followers for the 2 consecutive ranged attacks at a battle where I have used Koshin Keep's recon action, how do those two effects interact?

Am I correct in assuming that you would resolve the first ranged attack from Blood Wave, and if it didn't destroy its target, give the target the appropriate force penalty and have the opportunity to take an additional battle action to make another ranged attack against that target and so on until either the target is destroyed or you choose not to make another ranged attack. Then AFTER all of that, you would then resolve the second ranged attack from Blood Wave and go through all of those steps again?

Thank you

No. Additional actions have to wait until all effects of the action that granted them have resolved. You have to resolve the second consecutive Ranged Attack, and then you get your Koshin Keep's additional opportunity to shoot.

See here: When an additional action is granted while a non-Reaction action is in progress, the timing of the additional action is delayed: the opportunity to take it happens once the current non-Reaction action has ended, and once the opportunity to play Reactions to the end of the action has passed. This makes sure that Battle actions can not occur within other Battle actions, or Limited/Opens within other Limited/Opens. [CHANGED 1 Oct 2011]

Regarding: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=101964

as both Ranged Attacks of the Blood Wave have the addtional effect of Koshin Keep, will I be able to make additonal Ranged Attacks regarding boths RAs after Blood Wave resolved? Which means, are both original targets open for additional actions, or do I have to decide which one applicable?

If both Ranged Attacks fail to destroy their targets, you get two additional actions, one per each target.

Regarding viewtopic.php?f=59&t=101964

So the ruling said that if the 2 consecutive RA's fail o destroy thier targets, I get 2 additional actions, one for each target. So what happens if I use a second Blood Wave? Or even a third?

Wishful thinking, but would this be legal?

Targets A, B, C, and D. Blood Wave 1 targets A and B. Additional action from A to use Blood Wave 2 to target A and C Additional Action from B to use Blood Wave 3 to target B and D Proceed to murder 4 targets with additional actions from each target?

Koshin Keep Recon Reaction: After engaging: You have Reconnaissance at the current battlefield. Until this battle ends, your Ranged Attacks that do not destroy their target have the additional effects, "reduce the target's Force by the Ranged Attack's strength and you may take an additional Ranged Attack Battle action that may only target the same card". (emphasis mine) [FIXED]Your additional actions can't target C and D because Koshin Keep restricts you to target only the same card (A and/or B in your example). This is a restriction on the entire additional action.

Precedent Precedent

Unfortunately this means you can't fulfil the mandatory targeting and cost of Blood Wave (the "destroy your target Personality or Follower" part) and therefore you can't legally use Blood Wave as an additional action granted by Koshin Keep's effect at all. [FIXED]
