Kyuden Otomo XP and the Mempo of the Amethyst Champion

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 February 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Can the reaction on the Mempo of the Amethyst Champion be utilized after a Favor Token is discarded from Kyuden Otomo exp.?

Kyuden Otomo reads, "You may substitute discarding a Favor token from this card for discarding the Imperial Favor as a cost."

The Mempo reads, "Reaction: After you discard the Imperial Favor: Take the Imperial Favor."

I read KOxp's trait as allowing, by substitution, the Cost of an action to be met, but it seems to me that the Trigger for the Mempo is separate and looking for more than just whether the cost of an action was met.

You discarded a Favor token, but you never actually discarded the Imperial Favor. Therefore there isn't a trigger for Mempo of the Amethyst Champion.
